Do All Low-Mass Stars Undergo Extra Mixing Processes?

چکیده

Standard stellar evolution models that only consider convection as a physical process to mix material inside of stars predict the production significant amounts 3He in low-mass (M < 2 Msun), with peak abundances 3He/H ~ few x 10-3 by number. Over life-time Galaxy, this ought produce diminish increasing Galactocentric radius. Observations 3He+ HII regions throughout Galactic disk, however, reveal very little variation abundance values similar primoridal abundance, (3He/H)p 10-5 . This discrepancy, known "3He Problem", can be resolved invoking an extra-mixing mechanism due thermohaline instability. Here, we observe planetary nebula J320 (PN G190.3-17.7) Jansky Very Large Array (JVLA) confirm previous detection made VLA supports standard yields. measurement alone indicates not all undergo extra mixing. Our more sensitive observations do detect emission from RMS noise 58.8 microJy/beam after smoothing data velocity resolution 11.4 km/s We estimate limit <= 2.75 number using numerical radiative transfer code NEBULA. result nullifies last PN and allows for possibility mixing processes.

Do Si stars undergo any rotational braking ? ?

The old question of rotational braking of Ap Si stars is revisited on the empirical side, taking advantage of the recent Hipparcos results. Field stars with various evolutionary states are considered, and it is shown that the loose correlation between their rotational period and their surface gravity is entirely compatible with conservation of angular momentum. No evidence is found for any loss...

12 Boötis : a test bed for extra - mixing processes in stars 3

12 Boötis is a spectroscopic binary whose visual orbit has been resolved by interferometry. Though the physical parameters of the system have been determined with an excellent precision, the theoretical modelling of the components is still uncertain. We study the capability of solar-like oscillations to distinguish between calibrated models of the system obtained by including in the stellar mod...

How many low - mass stars do destroy 3 He ?

We recall the current status of the long-standing 3 He problem, and its possible connection with chemical anomalies on the red giant branch. In this context, we collect in the literature all the available observations of the carbon isotopic ratio in field and cluster giant stars. Using the HIPPARCOS paral-laxes, we get constraints on the evolutionary status of the field stars of the sample. Thi...

Rotational mixing in low-mass stars II. Self-consistent models of Pop II RGB stars

In this paper we study the effects of rotation in low-mass, low-metallicity RGB stars. We present the first evolutionary models taking into account self-consistently the latest prescriptions for the transport of angular momentum by meridional circulation and shear turbulence in stellar interiors as well as the associated mixing processes for chemicals computed from the ZAMS to the upper RGB. We...

Why Do Low-Mass Stars Become Red Giants?

We revisit the problem of why stars become red giants. We modify the physics of a standard stellar evolution code in order to determine what does and what does not contribute to a star becoming a red giant. In particular, we have run tests to try to separate the effects of changes in the mean molecular weight and in the energy generation. The implications for why stars become red giants are dis...
